An Introduction to the Birds of Tropical America

Introduction and Index is a simple HTML site in a traditional book format showcasing images of the different types of birds in tropical America in an educational context. is a gallery of high quality photos by many great photographers of about half of all bird species, with a wealth of scientific information and other features.

Ornithologists, the scientists who study birds, have grouped birds into 40 'orders', from Flamingos to Penguins to Hummingbirds to ordinary songbirds. 27 of those orders are represented in tropical America, and this classification system is integral to the structure of the site.

Bird Data combines information from IOC 7.1, IUCN Red List, and other databases for all of the world bird species. Data can be filtered by countries. Data includes bird names in seven languages, subspecies, ranges, alternate names, IUCN status,and taxonomic hierarchy. The last version has links to thousands of bird songs and bird calls that can be downloaded to the device.
